Cell Phones in Schools Hurt Nevada Children

Why do some Nevada school districts continue to allow cell phones during school hours?

Research studies show children who use cell phones at school:

  • Have increased headache, concentration difficulties, fatigue, eye strain and sleep disturbances.
  • They learn less.
  • The quality of what they learn is lower.
  • The risk of internet addiction increases.

Studies also confirm:

  • Cell phones disrupt and distract in classrooms.
  • Cheating increases when cell phones are present.
  • Real time cyber bullying increases.

Teachers, administrators, and school districts may be sued or face criminal charges when they do not stop:

  • Students using cell phones to sext. This is where teens text naked pictures or video of themselves or others to a third party. Minors in possession of child porn can be criminally charged whether they are the sender or the receiver.
  • Students using cell phones to access porn while on campus.
  • Students using cell phones to voyeuristically take uninvited and unwanted pictures of other students (or staff) without their permission.

If parents, teachers, and administrators don’t think this is going on, they are blissfully naive.

Cell phone access was substantially restricted in one Nevada school district. A teacher there told me remarkable improvement in student performance followed.

Do Nevada’s students really need the ability to make phone calls, send and receive text messages, post or watch Tik Tok videos, or check out Instagram while at school?

Cell phones in school is a failed experiment. Time to end it.
