Dear Senator Horsford

Dear Senator Horsford
N&V Staff
March 8, 2011

(Neil C. Medina/Keystone Corporation) –  Senator Horsford, Senate Majority Leader from Clark County, has asked Nevadans to tell him their stories about why the budget cannot be cut.  I am a small businessman from Reno who wants to share with you and Senator Horsford my story of why the budget MUST be cut in order to rescue the fiscal viability of our Great State!

Dear Senator Horsford,

In the last three (3) years, my business has gone from 10 employees to 3 and revenues have been slashed by over 65%.  In that period of time, in order to survive, I have remortgaged my house and have had to make very difficult decisions.  For example, to eliminate – NOT REDUCE – all employee benefits – health insurance, and paid vacations, to name but two.  Also, had it not been for the remaining three (3) employees and myself working so closely together to find and incorporate efficiencies within our working environment, I would have had to “close the doors” long ago.  I know through this experience what must be done in order to “right the ship.”  We must be realistic in making all business decisions:  We do not spend money we do not have, and we continuously re-evaluate our working environment to determine what is successful and what is not!

I am pleased to report that through great cooperation with my loyal staff, and exercising discipline in cutting costs, my business is “turning the corner” and we are looking for brighter days ahead.  So, Senator Horsford, I respectfully suggest the State can do the same – be disciplined.  Continue to cut costs, and with dedication and vigilance to that end, our State’s fiscal position will “right itself.”

Respectfully Submitted,

Neil C. Medina, Northern Nevada Small  Businessman
