Seems Like Old Times: Ensign Defends Reid…Again

Seems Like Old Times: Ensign Defends Reid…Again
N&V Staff
January 12, 2010

(Chuck Muth) – Never has Harry Reid been more politically vulnerable than he has the last three days since it was revealed that his attraction to Barack Obama was based on the fact that B.O. was a light-skinned African-American who didn’t have a Negro dialect except when he wanted to – like shouting “Amen!” or “Hallelujah, Brother!” at one of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s sermons.

This matter isn’t so much what Reid actually said, but the double-standard being applied to him as opposed to what would have happened had the exact same words been uttered by a conservative or Republican or even Nathan Taylor. Instead of black “leaders” rushing to Reid’s side in his time of need, they’d be stringing up a metaphorical rope.

You couldn’t cut the hypocrisy on this baby with a MS 441 C-Q STIHL Magnum Chain Saw. But back to Sen. Reid’s political fortunes and future.

As if he wasn’t already in big trouble, this latest case of Foot-in-Mouth could be the proverbial straw that breaks the light-skinned camel’s back. So what does Republican Sen. John Ensign do? He goes on the radio yesterday and tells Republicans to back off.

What the fudge?

Yep. Anjeanette Damon of “Inside Nevada Politics” reported on her blog yesterday that Ensign told the listening audience on KKOH in Reno that “as long as you take responsibility for your comments and apologize for them, I think people should accept that.” He added that “Democrats were really wrong in what they did to Trent Lott and we shouldn’t do the same thing to Sen. Reid.”

What the fudge?

“I really don’t understand this love love relationship between Ensign and Reid,” writes Nevada blogger ZekeSaysSo in reponse to Anjeanette’s blog post. “I get the feeling that the two of them somehow accidentally killed a hooker one night and made a deal to always stick together. Those two should be like cats and dogs, but they’re more like peas and carrots.”

Eggs-zactly.

And this is exactly the opposite of what Sen. Ensign *said* just a few short weeks ago in a Las Vegas interview with Alan Stock on KXNT. As you may recall, Ensign claimed in the interview, without substantiation, that Republican candidates running against Reid wanted him “involved in their campaigns,” adding, “I want to be helpful, not hurtful.”

Heck, he even went so far as to say he wouldn’t resign because to do so would mean an additional U.S. Senate election in Nevada next November to fill his unfilled term. “That takes the attention off Senator Reid,” Ensign said with a straight, light-skinned face without even the touch of a Negro dialect.

So why would Ensign come running to Reid’s defense now when instead he should be helping to drive the proverbial final nail in Dingy Harry’s coffin?

Oh, um, yeah.

I almost forgot about that sleeping with his best friend’s wife and then having Mom & Dad pay the family off in hopes of shutting them up thing. And the thing is, if Harry gives the word the Senate Ethics Committee would go into hyper-drive investigating Ensign’s scandal.

But I’m sure that had nothing to do with Ensign rushing to give aid-and-comfort to the #1 most vulnerable Democrat senator in the United States today, did it?

Nevada Republicans, pay attention.

Harry Reid OWNS John Ensign now.

John Ensign will NOT help you defeat Harry Reid.

In fact, John Ensign, as we just saw yesterday, will do everything he can do to HELP Harry Reid.

And yet not one Republican elected official, major candidate or party leader has stepped up and called on John Ensign to do the right thing and resign.

You’re not called the Stupid Party for nothing.
