The Democratic Socialists Are Winning Elsewhere. Don't Let Them Win Here.
This should worry every parent, small business owner, and taxpayer in Nevada.
The Wall Street Journal just published a piece asking if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could be a serious contender for president in 2028.
And their answer wasn't “no way.” It was “don't rule it out.” That should stop you in your tracks.
Longtime Democratic pollster Douglas E. Schoen wrote the piece.
He's not some right-wing pundit trying to scare you. He's advised Bill Clinton and Michael Bloomberg. And even he sees what's happening.
Democrats are drifting toward socialism, and AOC is a serious potential contender for their nomination, not a fringe name to dismiss. Here's why.
Progressive and democratic socialist candidates have been winning primaries across the country, and roughly one third of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters now identify as democratic socialists.
That's not a small number. That's a third of one of America's two major parties.
Polls back this up. A University of New Hampshire poll from July 2026 had AOC at 22 percent among likely Democratic primary voters in the key early state, putting her ahead of Pete Buttigieg.
She's not a long shot. She's near the top of the pack.
Why does this matter to us here in Nevada?
Because this same socialist movement isn't just happening in Washington. It's happening right here in Assembly District 41.
My opponent, Vinny Spotleson, is running as a self-admitted, dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
Not a regular Democrat. A socialist. Same movement the Wall Street Journal is warning America about.
Same playbook. Bigger government. More control over your paycheck, your kids' schools, and your small business. Less freedom for you to make your own choices.
Think about what socialism actually means for your family.
It means the government decides how much of your money you get to keep.
It means more rules, more red tape, and fewer choices for parents who want the best school for their kids.
It means politicians in Carson City telling you how to run your life, instead of trusting you to run it yourself.
We've seen this movie before.
Every time government grows, your freedom shrinks. Every dollar Sacramento or Carson City takes from your paycheck is a dollar you don't get to spend on your own family.
That's not big government helping you. That's big government controlling you.
Now, to be fair, Schoen's piece is his opinion, not a guarantee AOC wins anything.
Democratic primary voters lean further left than most Nevada families do, and a socialist candidate who wins a primary might struggle in a general election.
Fair point. But that's exactly why local races matter so much. We can't wait until 2028 to fight this. We fight it right here, right now, in Assembly District 41.
Nevada families believe in hard work, personal responsibility, and keeping government out of their business. That's not old-fashioned. That's common sense.
It's the same common sense that built this state.
The socialist movement is growing across the country, and it's showing up on our own ballot. We don't have to sit back and watch it happen. We can stop it right here, one vote at a time.
