(Mark Noonan) – Ah, our liberals – we can always count on them to be oblivious to reality and come up with “solutions” which not only don’t address the problem, but actually make things worse. The news:
“Nevadans could be asked this year to boost mining taxes but the money wouldn’t come in time to rescue state and local governments from a severe recession. The Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada intends on Tuesday to file with the secretary of state an initiative petition that, if approved by voters, would impose much higher taxes on the mining industry.”
Of course, these new taxes, if approved, could not come in time to rescue us from our current budget crunch. But, if approved swiftly enough, they would put an additional burden one of the few Nevada industries doing well in this recession. Nothing like ensuring that unemployment increases.
But what happens to Joe and Jane Average in Nevada isn’t important to our high-minded “progressives” inhabiting the liberal fantasy land. No, much more important is that everything be fair. With the progressives being in charge of deciding what “fair” means.
You see, to our liberal progressives, is just isn’t fair that with gold hitting a high price that the State of Nevada “only” took in $79 million in mining taxes in 2008. It would have been fair if it had been $284 million. Or, at least, that higher number would be fair until our liberals decided that we needed more fairness in taxation. Then the taxes would rise again.
And here, in a nutshell, is what is wrong with our liberals and why they always, without fail, mess things up. Our liberals think of money as a thing which just exists and if you have more of it than someone else, then you must have taken it via some nefarious plot. That a miner dug it out of the ground by the sweat of his brow just doesn’t register with liberals. To them, the gold and other metals and minerals were just sitting there and Mr. Miner just went and picked them up, for nothing. And now he has to pay. The money our liberals want to tax didn’t exist except for the fact that miners put their own money and sweat equity in to the effort – and now that it exists, our liberals think that they have a right to it.
And so it always goes with our liberals. And goes and goes and goes. Over the past 75 years this is how liberals have approached those who do the work of our nation. If you worked and made wealth, then you have to pony up because the liberals think you stole it from somewhere. And so higher and higher taxes on people who make things in factories, mine things out of the ground and grow things on farms.
And on top of the taxes come the regulations – regulations which tell the hard working person how he’s to do his business, and if it makes business impossible, so what? Liberals have to make things fair, and if you Mr. Miner have to pay for it, then liberals are entirely ok with it.
Do you wonder why we’re suddenly broke? Do you wonder why you can’t seem to buy a pair of shoes made in the USA anymore? Do you ever wonder just why we went from the most amazingly productive nation on earth to the sorry condition we’re in today? In a word: liberalism. That is what did it. They call themselves progressive, and that word fits – provided we realize that they are progressively destroying our State and nation.
It isn’t time to raise taxes on the people who make the wealth which allows us to live. It is time, indeed, to cut taxes on such people. We’ll only climb out of this debt and unemployment by creating the wealth necessary to pay off the debt and hire new workers – and we won’t be able to do that if liberals get their way.
