GOP Students Demand Resignation of Clark County Party Chair

GOP Students Demand Resignation of Clark County Party Chair

(Las Vegas, NV) – The UNLV College Republicans today are calling for the resignation of Cindy Lake, Acting Chair of the Clark County Republican Party, after comments she made on Sunday that the Party may withhold support from certain Republican candidates this fall. Lake is part of the Ron Paul contingent that took power at the county convention earlier this year, and has been publically critical of a number of Republican candidates including presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Senator Dean Heller, and Congressman Joe Heck.

“Cindy Lake should resign immediately,” said Mitch Cain, Grassroots Coordinator for the organization and former CCRP Coalition Director. “The Clark County Republican Party, like the UNLV College Republicans, has an obligation to represent all Republicans, not just those that agree with Cindy Lake and her illegitimate litmus test.”

The Clark County Republican Party is not allowed to endorse candidates in the Nevada GOP Primary, according to their bylaws. An attempt to change this bylaw failed overwhelmingly last year. The organization has traditionally supported all Republican candidates that advance through the primary and into the general against their Democratic Party opponents.

“The Clark County Republican Party is made up of all kinds of Republicans with one common goal: Defeating Democrats,” continued Cain. “There is no room in the Republican Party for someone who would put their own personal politics ahead of electing Republicans in November.”
