(Tarkanian for Senate) – Senator Reid is coming back to Nevada tomorrow, but he won’t answer questions on the economy from his struggling constituents. Instead, Senator Reid will drop in to raise money for his campaign and to launch slick and misleading television ads in which he makes reckless promises of thousands of new jobs. These ads repeat the same empty promises of economic recovery that Senator Reid has already made – and broken – again and again.
For example, just a few months ago, Senator Reid recklessly promised that his stimulus bill would create “jobs, jobs and more jobs!” But this year, Nevada has lost over 52,000 jobs and Nevada unemployment is at all-time highs. Two months ago, Senator Reid made another reckless promise that Nevada’s economy would turn around by next year.
Senator Reid’s promises are so reckless and self-serving that he can’t even defend them publicly to the people of Nevada. That is the real reason that he has canceled his last three press briefings. http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/63175-reid-skips-news-briefings-amid-tough-election-cycle#
One of the themes of my campaign will be to track every promise made by Senator Reid, to see if it is actually kept. We must – and will – hold him accountable.
The reason his promises always fail is that Senator Reid’s solution for everything is more government control. The real solutions for our economic recovery lie in helping small businesses in Nevada hire more people through tax and regulatory incentives, and in empowering Nevadans through improving education opportunities, reducing health care costs and keeping their families’ taxes low.
These are uncertain times for many Nevadans. They deserve real opportunities to see Senator Reid in a public forum and to ask tough questions. Instead they get nothing but slick ads and more reckless, empty promises of jobs that never materialize.
Tomorrow in Reno, Nevadans will again be denied the opportunity to ask questions. They will be reminded that the only people who have access to Senator Reid are his campaign donors inside the banquet room.
The rest of Nevada watches from the outside, strangers to their own Senator, waiting for answers.
