IAP Supports Governor Sandoval’s Budget Proposals

IAP Supports Governor Sandoval’s Budget Proposals
N&V Staff
January 31, 2011

(Tom Jones/Independent American Party) – In his State of the State address, Gov. Brian Sandoval outlined three areas of concern, the budget, education, and economic development. The Clark County Independent American Party (CCIAP), the 3rd largest political party in Nevada, supports him in his plan.

Sandoval wants to reduce the current budget by 6.45% which would be a $5.8 billion budget for the 2011-13 budget. While this would certainly create some hardships, the CCIAP supports the Governor’s effort to control the budget and stop the governments wasteful spending.

While Sandoval budget proposes a 5.2% cut in spending on K-12 education, he also wants to stop social promotion after the 3rd grade. The CCIAP supports him in both of these proposals. We don’t need any more money for education; we need more education for our money. We need to cut spending on administration and put the money where it belongs, in the classroom.

Regarding economic development, the Governor has proposed reducing the regulations and red tape required to do business in Nevada. We must make Nevada business friendly. We have people out of work who would love to start a business, but the cost and regulations prevent them for opening a business. The CCIAP supports the Governor’s proposal to cut regulations, restriction, and fees on businesses in Nevada.

On his web site, Sandoval stated that “I believe that we must enforce our laws, secure our borders and respect the efforts of those who have become a citizen through the proper legal process.” The CCIAP supports that statement and suggests that the legislature pass laws similar to Arizona and Oklahoma to stop illegal immigration into Nevada.

In the past, Governor Sandoval has fought to make the apportionment of the state more fair. One of the most flagrant wrongs is the situation in State Senate District 5 which has 2 State Senators. This district gets 2 votes per person in the Senate instead of one vote per person like every other State Senate District in Nevada. The CCIAP agrees with Sandoval that this situation must be corrected and the apportionment should be more equal and fair.

The Clark County Independent American Party asks all Nevadans to support Governor Sandoval as he tries to move Nevada forward in the long term by not increasing taxes and making the other improvements outlined above.
