Is Henderson’s Ward 2 About to Change Forever? Monica Larson’s 2026 Preview

Henderson City Councilwoman Dr. Monica Larson kicked off the new year with a glossy January newsletter highlighting public appearances, community events, and a long list of infrastructure and development projects in Ward 2.

Like a year-in-review highlight reel, it touched on everything from business breakfasts and cultural celebrations to traffic signals, bike lanes, and new housing projects moving through the city pipeline.

“I look forward to everything the new year brings,” Larson wrote, adding that public safety and education remain front-of-mind.

Heavy on appearances and community events

A large portion of the newsletter focuses on Larson’s attendance at community and civic events across the Las Vegas Valley.

Among them:

  • Recognition of the Korean Las Vegas Media Foundation, which she praised for celebrating Korean American culture in the region
  • A Henderson Chamber “Breakfast with the Boards” focused on the city’s 2026 business outlook
  • Nevada State University’s State of the University address
  • A tour of the Henderson Senior Facility at Heritage Park
  • NAIOP’s first breakfast meeting of 2026
  • Boulder City’s State of the City address
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations and parade
  • Ribbon cutting for Tacos Los Neri, a new restaurant coming to Ward 2

Each section is accompanied by photos and short descriptions emphasizing unity, collaboration, and community engagement.

Morning meet-ups and constituent outreach

Larson announced her first Morning Meet-Up of the year is scheduled for February 19, with the location still to be determined. Residents are encouraged to watch social media for updates.

The meet-ups are billed as informal opportunities for residents to hear community updates and learn more about parks, recreation programs, and city services.

Infrastructure projects underway or planned

The most detailed portion of the newsletter outlines ongoing and future infrastructure projects in Ward 2, particularly in Seven Hills and Inspirada.

Projects listed include:

  • A new connection from Seven Hills to West Henderson behind Costco, currently in the design phase
  • Pavement rehabilitation and ADA upgrades along Horizon Ridge Parkway, Green Valley Parkway, and Seven Hills Drive
  • New and upgraded traffic signals at multiple Inspirada intersections
  • A Via Inspirada trail project, including bike lanes, flashing beacons, sidewalk improvements, and a pedestrian bridge linking the I-215 Trail to Dos Escuelas Park, with completion anticipated in January 2026
  • Preliminary design work for a new roadway on Gillespie Street from Via Inspirada to Volunteer, with construction bids tentatively scheduled for 2027

Development continues in West Henderson

Larson’s update also lists several major residential and industrial development projects approved or under review by the city.

Those include:

  • Two residential subdivisions near Larson Lane and Gillespie Street totaling roughly 700 townhomes and condominiums
  • A 127-lot single-family subdivision at Gillespie Street and Larson Lane
  • A proposed 391-unit, 100 percent affordable housing project near Las Vegas Boulevard and Larson Lane, which will still require City Council review of housing incentives
  • The second phase of an industrial expansion near Bruner Avenue and Raiders Way, tied to Turano Bakery operations

All of the listed residential projects were approved by City Council in 2025.

A polished look ahead to 2026

While the newsletter is light on policy debate or cost details, it offers a clear look at how Larson is framing her role as Henderson heads deeper into an election cycle.

The emphasis is on visibility, growth, and infrastructure. For Ward 2 residents, the update serves as both a progress report and a preview of what city leadership is choosing to spotlight as 2026 approaches.
