Kelly Chapman Announces Campaign for Assembly District 8: “Time to Elect Someone Who Actually Shopped at Smith’s When Eggs Hit $7.32”

Las Vegas, NV – Lifelong Las Vegas resident and working-class advocate Kelly Chapman has officially announced her candidacy for Nevada’s Assembly District 8, promising to bring real-life experience and common sense to Carson City.

“I’m a single mom who worked her way up from dealing cards to being a pit boss while raising a son and counting every dollar,” Chapman said. “I know what it’s like to stand in the grocery store aisle and ask yourself whether you can afford eggs this week.”

Chapman’s campaign draws a sharp contrast with incumbent Assemblyman Duy Nguyen, highlighting his record of supporting tax hikes, increased government spending, and soft-on-crime policies that Chapman says put working families at risk.

“While you’re pumping $4 gas and trying to make it to payday, Nguyen is up in Carson City rubber-stamping every spending bill that comes across his desk,” Chapman said. “And when someone’s breaking into cars in your neighborhood, he votes to let them out early.”

Chapman also voiced concerns about parental rights and education transparency.

“When your kid comes home from school talking about something that makes you think, ‘What the heck are they teaching them?’ and you try to speak up, they treat you like the problem. That’s not right.”

A 46-year resident of Las Vegas and a graduate of Chaparral High School, Chapman is campaigning on restoring trust, defending parental involvement in education, reducing the cost of living, and holding government accountable to the people it serves.

“I’m not running because I love politics. I’m running because someone needs to go up there and fight for people like us – people who know what it’s like to work two jobs, who’ve had to choose between fixing the car or buying groceries, and who just want safe streets and good schools without being taxed into the ground.”

In 2024, Chapman came within striking distance of unseating Nguyen despite being vastly outspent. This time, she says, “we’re going to finish what we started.”

The campaign is calling on voters across District 8 to help spread the word, volunteer, and, most importantly, show up at the ballot box.
