Las Vegas Declares December 18th “Bob & Sandy Ellis Day”

(Chuck Muth) – Today, the Las Vegas City Council declared December 18, 2024, as “Bob and Sandy Ellis Day” in a ceremony honoring the work and generosity of the Ellis Charitable Foundation in support of underprivileged students.

The foundation’s work centers on addressing the fundamental needs of students, recognizing that this support is crucial for a child’s well-being and educational success.   Its influence extends to 40 schools throughout Nevada, positively influencing students in urban cities, rural communities, and Native American reservations.

The surprise honor and presentation – which Mr. Ellis was completely unaware of – featured remarks by Nevada Gov. Joe Lombaro and newly-elected Mayor Shelley Berkley.  The recognition and ceremony were requested by longtime family friend, Hui-Lim.

Notables in attendance, who somehow kept the secret from Mr. Ellis, included Latin Chamber of Commerce President Peter Guzman, former Congressman Crescent Hardy, former Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen, and former AFL-CIO chief Danny Thompson, as well as a number of 2024 legislative candidates, including Erica Neely, Brandon Davis, Annette Dawson Owens, and Jill Douglass.
