LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Governor Joe Lombardo announced his appointment of Laura Rich as the new Director of the Nevada Department of Human Services (DHS).
Governor Lombardo previously appointed Rique Robb to serve as the Interim Director of DHS, following the retirement of the long-serving former Director Richard Whitley.

Rich brings extensive expertise in health care administration, strategic planning, and statewide program oversight.
“Laura has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout her career, and her deep understanding of Nevada’s health and human services landscape will be a tremendous asset to the Department,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “I’m confident that Laura will lead DHS with professionalism, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to improving outcomes for Nevada families.”
“I want to thank Governor Lombardo for the opportunity to serve as Interim Director of DHS over the past several weeks,” said outgoing Interim Director Rique Robb. “It has been a privilege to lead such a dedicated Department through this transition, and I’m confident that Director Rich will continue advancing the vital work of supporting Nevada’s most vulnerable populations. Her experience and vision will serve the Department and the state well.”
“I am honored by Governor Lombardo’s confidence in me and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Department of Human Services,” said incoming DHS Director Laura Rich. “Nevada’s families rely on the essential services DHS provides, and I am committed to supporting our workforce, strengthening our partnerships, and ensuring that every Nevadan has access to the care and resources they need. I look forward to building on the Department’s strong foundation and serving our state with integrity.”
Rich holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, a Master of Business Administration from Western Governors University, and is a Certified Public Manager.
Her career in public service includes extensive experience overseeing statewide health programs, managing complex budgets, guiding policy development, and collaborating with key stakeholders across Nevada’s health and human services system.
Rich will assume her role as Director of the Nevada Department of Human Services effective January 5, 2026.
