(Chuck Muth) – Nevada Democrat Attorney General Aaron Ford sent out an email on Thursday trying to justify his decision to join a Democrat lawsuit to block President Donald Trump’s executive order ending automatic birthright citizenship.
My response…
Dear Mr. Ford,
Your lawsuit against President Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship is not just misguided – it’s a blatant misrepresentation of constitutional intent and a disservice to the American people.
Let’s set the record straight: The 14th Amendment was never intended to be a blanket guarantee of citizenship for anyone born on U.S. soil under any circumstances.
The amendment’s original purpose was to ensure the citizenship rights of formerly enslaved individuals – not to incentivize illegal immigration or to be exploited as a loophole for those seeking to circumvent our immigration laws.
Your claim that it’s a “cornerstone of what it means to be an American” ignores the historical context and the legislative intent behind it.
Your alarmist rhetoric about creating a “permanent underclass” and “stripping people of protections” is nothing more than fear-mongering.
The truth is, unchecked birthright citizenship policies encourage illegal immigration, overburden our public resources, and undermine the integrity of our immigration system.
Rather than securing the rights of American citizens, your approach opens the door for abuse, putting greater strain on programs like Medicaid and CHIP – programs meant to serve law-abiding American families, not those who enter the country unlawfully.
Furthermore, your assertion that President Trump’s executive order is unconstitutional is far from settled law.
In fact, the executive branch has both the authority and the obligation to enforce immigration policies that prioritize the interests of American citizens.
Birthright citizenship as currently applied has never been adequately adjudicated by the Supreme Court in the context of modern immigration realities, and it’s high time we address this critical issue with clarity and fairness.
Your office should be focused on upholding the rule of law and protecting Nevada taxpayers – not grandstanding with politically charged lawsuits that do nothing to solve the challenges facing our communities.
Nevadans deserve leaders who put their safety, economic security, and constitutional rights first – not politicians who weaponize the courts to score partisan points.
Let’s have an honest conversation about what truly defines us as a nation: a commitment to law and order, a respect for the Constitution as it was written, and policies that protect the rights and opportunities of American citizens first and foremost.
