Nevada Business Coalition Challenges County PLA Agreement

Nevada Business Coalition Challenges County PLA Agreement
Chuck Muth
April 20, 2011

(Michael Chamberlain/Nevada Business Coalition) – Yesterday Clark County District Judge Jerry Wiese declined to dismiss a Citizen Outreach lawsuit brought by the Nevada Business Coalition challenging the Project Labor Agreement (PLA) at the Clark County Detention Center project. Judge Wiese stated it would be premature to issue a ruling on the suit because the County had not yet approved the PLA but he issued a continuance until May 9.

Today the County finalized the PLA and the suit will proceed.

After yesterday’s ruling Citizen Outreach’s attorney, Theodore Parker, noted, “I believe today was very positive, especially since the County requested a dismissal of this action, which was denied.”

The decision on May 9, 2011 could make Citizen Outreach vs. Clark County a landmark case and strike a substantial blow to union power throughout Nevada. PLAs add unnecessary costs to construction projects, which harm both non-union contractors and taxpayers. NBC is fighting to score a victory for them.
