(Chuck Muth) – This morning I attended Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo’s press conference where he introduced his Nevada Accountability in Education Act. The key points of his proposal include…
- Reward great teachers with real bonuses — not just gold stars and “atta boys.”
- Crack down on lousy schools with a no-excuses, fix-it-or-else plan.
- Give parents real choices — charter schools, private schools, you name it.
- Teach kids to actually READ — using real science, not unicorn dust.
- Fund charter schools fairly so every kid gets a shot, not just the lucky few.
- Back up teachers when they step in to keep classrooms safe.
- Cut red tape so schools can stop filling out useless reports and start teaching.
“After delivering the largest investment in K–12 education in Nevada’s history (in the 2023 session), we owe it to our communities to match that investment with real results,” Lombardo said at Pinecrest Academy in Henderson.
“We can no longer accept lack of funding as an excuse for chronic underperformance,” the governor continued. “That’s why I’m introducing the Accountability in Education Act, which is built on one guiding principle: No child in Nevada should be trapped in a failing school because of their ZIP code or held back because of how much their parents or guardians earn.”
Amen and hallelujah!
However, with just over four weeks to go before the end of the 2025 legislative session, the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is still dragging its feet in drafting the bill and submitting it to the Legislature.
They’ve had the draft request – from the GOVERNOR of the state, by the way – for months now yet still haven’t released it in bill form. Lombardo said he hopes they get it out sometime next week.
Partisan politics by the Democrat majority that controls both the State Senate and Assembly – at the behest of the teachers’ unions who control the Democrats?
No doubt in my mind.
