Official filing for office opens next week.
Assembly District 37 in Clark County is probably one of the top three GOP pick-up opportunities this year. But Republicans need a strong, proven candidate to flip it.
Jill Douglass is the current Clark County GOP chair. She ran for the State Senate last cycle against the Democrat Senate Majority Leader and almost knocked her off.
Assembly District 37 falls within that Senate district. So Jill is absolutely the best chance Republicans have to flip it.
But some are saying she shouldn’t be both an elected legislator and party chair.
Pish-posh. The chair of the Democrat Party is already a sitting legislator. So much for that argument.
In addition, I hear some “turds in the punchbowl” are pushing for an inexperienced, untested newcomer with no grassroots history of involvement in the Republican Party to hop into this race.
Sorry, but this is no time for on-the-job training.
The possibility of this “newbie” parachuting into the GOP primary for this seat is muddying up the waters and making Jill’s go/no-go decision tougher.
