Why so much higher?
McKenna Ross of the Las Vegas Review-Journal explained this morning…
“Before the state implemented fuel revenue indexing, drivers in Southern Nevada paid 52 cents per gallon in fuel taxes. By the time voters chose to extend the indexing plan, they were paying 62 cents per gallon. Currently, drivers pay 75 cents per gallon.”
Nevada legislators right now are attempting to keep gas tax hikes on auto-pilot – AB530 – without getting voter approval.
Every Democrat in the Assembly voted to keep raising the gas tax higher and higher automatically without voter approval.
Only three Republicans in the Assembly voted against it: Assemblywoman Jill Dickman, Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant, and Assemblyman Greg Hafen.
The bill is now in the Senate.
