Mesquite, NV — On Bill of Rights Day, former Nevada Assemblywoman Annie Black announced she is running to return to the Nevada Assembly representing District 19, saying the district needs a proven constitutional conservative — not an appointed politician still learning the job.
Black previously represented District 19 in the Nevada Assembly and served during the 2021 legislative session, when government emergency powers, mandates, and shutdowns put core freedoms to the test.
“I was there when the Bill of Rights was treated like a suggestion,” Black said. “During COVID, politicians forgot where their authority ends. I didn’t.”
Black earned a reputation in Carson City as a constitutional conservative, a small business owner, and a legislator willing to stand alone when leadership went too far.
She consistently challenged government overreach and defended individual liberty at a time when doing so was unpopular inside the building.
Her opponent, Jason Patchett, was appointed, not elected, and has already shown the direction he intends to take.
Just last month, Patchett voted for the ‘Hollywood Handout’, a rushed, taxpayer-funded giveaway passed during a special session that conservatives across Nevada opposed.
“Experience matters,” Black said. “I know the legislative process. I know how the system works. And I know how quickly politicians cave when pressure comes from leadership, lobbyists, or the press.”
Black contrasts her background as a small businesswoman and entrepreneur with Patchett’s career as a lawyer and political appointee, saying District 19 needs someone who understands real-world consequences, not theoretical arguments.
District 19 is overwhelmingly Republican, and Black says voters deserve a representative who reflects those values without apology.
“This district doesn’t need a moderate who will go along to get along,” Black said. “It needs a conservative who will stand up, speak out, and vote no when the Constitution demands it.”
Black’s campaign will be about the things families feel every day: the cost of groceries and gas, politicians handing out taxpayer money to special interests, bureaucrats telling parents how to raise their kids, and a government that keeps growing while paychecks don’t.
Black says voters deserve someone who will say “no” more often than “yes” — and mean it.
“I didn’t back down in 2021,” Black said. “And I won’t back down now.”
