Proven Leadership, Commitment to Principles

Proven Leadership, Commitment to Principles

(Jim Gibbons) – When was the last time a politician kept his word?

I stand up for what I believe in and I have the track record to prove it. When legislators passed bills to raise taxes in the face of the deepest recession of our lifetimes, I pulled out my veto stamp and used it. Legislators from both sides of the aisle turned around, ignored Nevada’s working families and ignored basic Republican platforms, and over-rode my veto.

I promised not to raise taxes and I kept my end of the deal. I have looked down the barrel of guns with the enemies of America pulling the triggers. I didn’t surrender. I didn’t back down. And I will not back down now. I am not a quitter. When there’s a tough job to be done, some people find another job. I promised you I would stand up for you and that’s what I did.

Republicans stand for lower taxes, less government and help for businesses. We stand for creating jobs, not killing them with higher taxes and repressive legislation. We stand for high quality health care for as many people as possible. The best way to do that is to create good paying jobs with good benefits.

It has not been easy running the Great State of Nevada during this unprecedented economic crisis. But I have done it with compassion and determination.

There are those who “say” they can lead the state with Republican principles, but I am the only candidate who has proven that I have the leadership skills to guide Nevada through this tough time by fighting higher taxes and keeping government spending under control. That is the path to prepare our state for the recovery that will eventually arrive.

I would be proud to have your support for reelection. Nevada cannot afford to have someone at the helm without proven leadership during these challenging times. I do more than talk the talk. I have walked the walk, and my record proves it.

Remember what Republicans stand for. I need your support. The great state of Nevada needs your support.

(Jim Gibbons is governor of Nevada)
