Raggio Wrong, Gibbons RIGHT!

Raggio Wrong, Gibbons RIGHT!

(Todd “Taxpayer” Bailey) – Clearly, what the leadership of the Nevada Legislature did just six months ago was WRONG! Politicians can raise taxes all they want, but if there are NO JOBS, everyone gets fired.

In the Reno Gazette Journal on Wednesday, Senator Bill Raggio claims, “I created the Economic Forum” – the committee that determines revenue projections for the State of Nevada so the legislature can establish the tax revenue they need for the state’s spending problem.

If the Economic Forum is only going to be allowed to meet every two years as Senator Raggio is insisting, then the destruction of the Nevada economy becomes intentional. The Economic Forum should be meeting monthly.

Political leaders can not sit back and claim they didn’t know how bad things were going to get as political cover for raising taxes, while restricting the ability of the people who provide the data for those decisions. That is doublespeak. If Republican leaders are so keen on unity, they should start by supporting their Governor, who is doing the RIGHT thing, and keeping his promise.

That’s leadership the legislative leadership should take a hint from.

To create more tax revenue for the State of Nevada, we should ELIMINATE the Payroll Tax – Nevada’s hidden “back door” income tax – and start creating MORE JOBS!

Nevada Taxpayers need to start calling their representatives in the Legislature, and tell them to ELIMINATE The Payroll Tax, and anything else to start creating JOBS in Nevada. Anything less is simply the preservation of the political power of a few at the expense of every Nevada Taxpayer, and that’s not O.K.

It’s time to move Nevada in a new direction, with new leadership in the Nevada Senate that is willing to do the RIGHT thing. If I am elected to Nevada Senate District 4, I will do the RIGHT thing. I support the Governor’s request, and suggest the Economic Forum update their numbers every month, instead of every two years.

(Mr. Bailey is a Republican candidate for Nevada Senate District 4)
