(Roy Beck, NumbersUSA) The Democratic Party platform calls for “Fixing the Broken Immigration System.” On his Congressional website, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) has an entire page dedicated to the immigration issue, leading with “Our immigration system is broken…”

For years, we’ve been hearing amnesty advocates and immigration expansionists call the system “broken”, but their solution is always to grant legal status and lifetime work permits to 11 million illegal aliens while doubling the number of green cards and temporary work permits issued to foreign nationals every year. Of course, they very rarely mention enforcement.

While immigration reductionists, like NumbersUSA, agree with the expansionists that the immigration system is broken, we disagree on what is really broken. The expansionists say it’s because we don’t allow in enough foreign citizens. But they can’t deny the fact that three consecutive White House Administrations have failed to end the magnets that encourage illegal immigration, have failed to enforce immigration laws in the nation’s interior, and have failed to achieve 100% operational control at and between all ports of entry.
