(Mark Noonan/Blogs for Victory) – A bold prediction noted in the Review-Journal: “… Democratic insiders predict they can pick up the state Senate seats held by Republicans Dennis Nolan in District 9 and Barbara Cegavske in District 8 and gain a 14-7 veto-proof majority in the Senate. Democrats are now the dominant party in both Nolan’s and Cegavske’s districts.”
They also think they can at least maintain their 28-14 majority in the Assembly.
Having veto-proof majorities in both houses would give the Democrats absolute control over legislation, even if a Republican is elected governor.”
Which, of course, is the Democrats’ fondest dream – I mean, having a Republican governor they can raise taxes over, thus allowing said Republican to take the blame for the disastrous effects tax increases will have. Nothing better for a Democrat than the ability to steal more money and blame a Republican for it.
But is the prediction credible? With Democrats holding solid majorities in an anti-incumbent year while Nevada wallows in economic crisis, can they increase their numbers? Anything is possible, but this is highly improbable.
The prediction is mostly based upon the theory that no one likes conservatives. You see, what is happening is that a lot of the Old Guard of the Republican Party is being challenged by insurgents in the primary. This means the Old Guard has had to tack right and, of course, it also means that some of them may fall to the new kids on the block.
As any Democrat will tell you, the worst thing which can happen to the GOP is if the current office holders are forced out or forced to adhere to Republican principles. After all, by keeping the Old Guard with all their RINO surrenders, the Nevada Republican party has scored triumph after triumph.
Once you stop laughing about that, please consider what is really going on here: the Establishment is closing ranks. They are desperately afraid of us and are trying every expedient they can think of to talk us in to returning them to power.
This is just scare tactics directed at the Republican Party faithful. We’re being warned that if we don’t opt for the RINO losers of the past, then we’ll get beaten in November because, you know, those mean, nasty conservatives can never win anything. After all, look what happened when insurgent, anti-establishment Republicans were nominated for governor of Virginia and New Jersey! We don’t want that to happen here in Nevada, do we?
Well, of course we do – and that is what is making the powers that be shake in their boots. Fear not, fellow Republicans. Vote your conscience on Tuesday. Don’t allow political con artists to scam you in to voting RINO when you want to vote Republican. We’ve got the Old Guard on the run and this November we’ll send the Democrats packing – if we nominate real Republicans, that is.
