(Mark Noonan) – As I was driving home from Church on Sunday, I happened to hear an ad lauding a bill supposedly introduced by Dina Titus (D-NV) which will, from what the ad said, save the entire world and make us all happy, healthy, taller and better at golf (this last being a crucial issue for my vote in 2010).
I said it was “supposedly” introduced by her because I’ve checked her websites and can’t find anything “out of the horses mouth” indicating a recent, major energy initiative from Dina Titus.
What you will find in her website is the fact that she voted in favor of “cap and trade” – the horrendously unpopular energy bill being pushed by Obama, Pelosi and Reid which they say will make everything wonderful with only the slight problem of bankrupting us along the way. Reid has not managed to get that dog of a bill through the Senate, but Titus writes it up on her own site as if its already a done deal and doing wonderful things for us.
Titus, you might recall, not only voted in favor of “cap and trade” but also for the passage of ObamaCare. Naturally, she also backed the failed Obama stimulus plan. So, she’s got a lot of negative baggage, especially for a House member facing her first re-election battle. What to do? You call in the political calvary, that’s what you do.
In this case, the people riding to Titus’ rescue are from a group called the Apollo Alliance. Who are they? A leftist group which advocates for “cap and trade”. From their “green collar” pledge, we get this:
“The Apollo Alliance is a coalition of business, labor, environmental and community leaders working together to catalyze a clean energy revolution in America.”
To translate from the lefty, what this means is that a a group of grafting government contractors, union bosses, environmentalist whackos and self promoting “community organizers” has figured out what would work best for themselves (and this means primarily an increase in government power and spending) and they want to impose it on you and me. Among their chosen instruments for making the imposition is Dina Titus. Trouble is, things are looking grim for Democrats – especially first term Democrats in swing districts, like Dina Titus – and so they are pulling out all the stops trying to save her.
And thus the ad – which, if you listen to it, really makes out that the “cap and trade” bill is wonderful. You’d never guess that the bill would dramatically increase energy costs for the consumer and work out as a massive, new tax on the working poor and middle class. The primary purpose of the effort is not to create “green collar” jobs, but to stop those pesky American citizens from living like Americans. I doubt much that Titus fully realizes this – the day she utters an independent thought, I’ll faint dead away. She’s a useful tool of left wing interests, nothing more.
And that is why the left is trying to save her.
