Titus Gave Staff Bonuses Rather Than Return Money

(Mark Ciavola) – Last week, the Las Vegas Sun reported that Dina Titus gave her staff $155,000 in bonuses on her way out of office, after losing her bid for re-election to now-Congressman Joe Heck. Titus ranked 10th out of 435 members of Congress for highest increase in salaries for the fourth quarter, almost doubling her yearly personnel budget. According to the article, any unspent money left in congressional office budgets is returned to the U.S. Treasury, which has some people, including the UNLV College Republicans, upset that Titus showed little regard for taxpayer dollars.

“This is yet another example of Dina Titus’ lack of integrity,” said Mark Ciavola, president of the UNLV College Republicans. “She needs to learn that the ends do not always justify the means.”

This January the UNLV College Republicans launched Woman Without Integrity, a website devoted to questionable actions by the former congresswoman from the final days of the 2010 election to present-day, complete with links to articles and videos backing up their claims. They have also recently opposed a new radio show which is sponsored by UNLV’s Black Mountain Institute, hosted by Titus herself, and paid for by taxpayers.

“Dina Titus is a career politician, who will stop at nothing to return herself to a position of power, and that includes using taxpayer dollars for her own personal benefit.” concluded Ciavola.
