(Andrew Cain/Richmond Times-Dispatch) – U.S. Rep. Dave Brat, R-7th, says former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich would be Donald Trump’s smartest choice for a running mate.
In an appearance Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Brat promoted his new book, “American Underdog: Proof that Principles Matter.”
Brat was asked who would be the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s smartest choice politically for vice president.
“I think Newt,” said Brat, referring to Gingrich, the former Georgia congressman who served as House speaker from 1995 to 1999.
Gingrich is “politically savvy, he’s forward-looking” on innovation and technology, is “always ahead of the curve” and “has more books out than anyone up there,” Brat said.
Asked about Gingrich’s temperament, Brat said people “are in the mood for a little extra energy right now.”
