(Lori Piotrowski) – Presidential candidate Herman Cain continued trending upward this weekend winning a straw poll conducted at the 36th biennial convention of the National Federation of Republican Women in Kansas City, Missouri. More than 500 women from 47 states and Puerto Rico voted in the poll, and Cain took a majority of the vote. Rick Perry and Mitt Romney placed second and third respectively.
The poll featured nine candidates; below are the poll results:
Herman Cain – 48.9%
Rick Perry – 14.1%
Mitt Romney – 13.3%
Newt Gingrich – 12.5%
Rick Santorum – 6.9%
Michele Bachmann – 1.4%
Ron Paul – 0.6%
Gary Johnson – 0.4%
Jon Huntsman – 0.2%
Undecided – 1.8%
“In a straw poll with this many candidates on the ballot, it is unusual for one candidate to receive almost half of the votes,” said Karen Floyd, former chair of the South Carolina Republican Party and publisher of PalladianView.com, which conducted the poll. “It is very impressive.”
All the presidential candidates were invited to address the convention delegates and guests; however, only Cain, Gingrich and Santorum opted to do so. Their participation was featured on Saturday, October 1.
