(Gary Duarte of USNEF) – Bipartisan Congressional visit to Yucca again on April 9th by Congressman Shimkus, Reps. Jerry McNerney (D-CA), Bob Latta (R-OH), Cresent Hardy (R-NV), Mark Amodei (R-NV), and Dan Newhouse (R-WA) are expected to continue “Yucca talk.”
These representatives are visiting the Yucca Mountain site as its licensing application is again in discussion. Recent and past public polls show 70% of Nevadans are willing to “talk Yucca” and as with many political issues, straight talk is what we all need.
We know that the scientific studies overwhelmingly prove that Yucca Mountain is safe and sustainable. Once we are able to distribute the educational truth to the public, Nevada will become “community-friendly,” as what the Obama Administration’s Blue Ribbon Commission recommended. For more than 30 years, Nevada citizens have been misinformed. USNEF is working to correct this with an informed public by a series of educational survey questions directly to Nevada households.
We would like to sing high praise for Congressmen Shimkus, Amodei, Hardy, McNerney, Latta, Newhouse and others from the Congressional Energy & Commerce Committee for their renewed effort to “talk” about the Yucca Mountain program with Congress, the Department of Energy and Nevada’s citizens.
The Yucca Mountain Program has been delayed far too long by the obstructionist activities of a few bureaucrats, not representing the will of the public or the safety and security needs of ALL U.S. citizens. As responsible citizens, we must unite to engage political dialogue to include public opinion with factual data.
