Desperate Schwartz Dreams the Impossible Dream

Posted By

Last week Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, the leading Republican candidate for governor (by a “yuge” margin), released his comprehensive education reform platform – including support for true, universal school choice in the form of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs).

Which his marginal, increasingly desperate, GOP primary opponent, Dan Schwartz, “blasted” in a press release.

Taking a page right out of uber-liberal Democrat gubernatorial candidate Chris Giunchigliani’s playbook, Schwartz proposed taking the hotel tax money – paid by TOURISTS – that the Legislature already approved for the construction of a new multi-purpose stadium in Las Vegas and dump it into the bottomless pits known as our public schools.

As every conservative Republican knows, more money won’t fix the problem.  We’ve tried that for years.  And our government schools are still the worst in the nation!

But the notion that the Nevada Legislature next year will pull the plug on the stadium project – which will be half-done by the time they reconvene in Carson City – and redirect the money to Nevada’s K-12 school system is, well…

Stupid.

Ain’t gonna happen.

If you want to be taken seriously as a gubernatorial candidate, you might want to try embracing reality just a little bit.

P.S.  I’m told that Republican state treasurer candidate Derek Uehararecently pooh-poohed ESAs at a GOP club meeting.  If true, that should pretty much disqualify him from consideration as a Republican candidate for any public office.

In Praise of Mueller (No, Not THAT One!)

In a recent blog post titled, “In Order to Win, You Gotta Make Noise,” Mike Zahara of WatchDog Wag makes a case for Republican Craig Mueller (my personal attorney) for Nevada attorney general…

“I’ve heard Mueller bellowing in the corridors of the RJC (Regional Justice Center) over the years and his cred is very solid with a strong pro-consumer bent too.   He’s a real old school Republican and no one would ever get away with calling him a RINO, his background is too broad and vast, he is the most experienced and well-rounded candidate for AG we’ve had in years!  Nevada citizens will be exceptionally well-served when he is our Attorney General but he’s got to beat back…Wes Duncan (in the GOP primary) to get that chance.

“His support is growing by leaps and bounds and he is running the most exciting and critical campaign on the GOP side this cycle.  Unusual for an attorney, he a bit brash and loaded with self-confidence—-I know, can you even believe that?— but he’s earned that with decades of performance and there is nothing false about his campaign bravado, he’s the real deal for GOP voters this cycle.  I couldn’t be more pleased he entered the race and for this office too, and I urge all of my GOP readers to please vote for Craig Mueller though that surname isn’t your favorite, this guy will become your favorite, I promise.

“He is the Anti-Wes Duncan in every respect and he can easily beat (Democrat candidate) A-Ron Fraud Ford badly in November too. . . . We have the dubious distinction in Nevadastan in having both the GOP and the Dems backing the very worst choices and candidates for Attorney General in the entire country—both Wes and A-Ron are pure political garbage, nothing of value at all to warrant your voting for either poseur!”

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“I hate party politics. And my own political alignment has drifted back and forth throughout my life. But when I get selected for random screening by the metal detector in the TSA line, I basically turn into @ChuckMuth.” – Tweet by Dylan Shaver
