(NN&V Staff) – Today U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV) was named to the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health and will remain on Select Revenue Measures, which is the tax writing subcommittee for Ways and Means.
“It is an honor to be named to the Health Subcommittee. This position will give Nevada a seat at the table and a stronger voice on health care legislation coming through Congress. I look forward to serving on this Subcommittee to bring more access and affordability into our health care system,” said Heller.
The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health consists of 9 Republicans and 5 Democrats. The Subcommittee oversees programs that provide payments for health care, health delivery systems, and health research. Jurisdiction also includes bills and matters that relate to health care programs of the Social Security Act.
“Americans want a health care system that works for them. Unfortunately, the current health care law fails to provide Americans with the solutions they are asking for. This measure was full of political buyoffs and special deals that benefit a select few while the majority of Americans will see higher taxes and higher health care costs. Our nation needs market based solutions to solve our health care problems, not greater government intrusion,” added Heller.
The House Committee on Ways and Means is the chief tax-writing committee of the United States House of Representatives. It is an exclusive committee that has jurisdiction over all taxation, tariffs, Social Security, health care, Medicare, and trade.
