(Lori Piotrowski) – Americans are an innovative lot. Creativity was in full force when someone came up with the idea of dumping tea into the Boston Harbor on December 16, 1773. And in the hills of Appalachia, where moonshine was distilled, locals outran the Feds to deliver the liquid gold.
Recently, someone else had a vision of change and tossed a shot into the teacup. The Tea Party.net and Lafferty Motorsports LLC are sponsoring Chris Lafferty in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. According to Dustin Stockton, media director, The Tea Party.net, the “We The People’s” truck, will participate in races across the country during the upcoming two seasons. “The #89 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the Tea Party is a natural fit. We will literally drive ‘We The People’ to the front row in racing and government.”
The Tea Party.net is just one of the many organizations that have co-opted the movement’s nomenclature. Tea Party Express was a strong force in the 2010 elections. American Grassroots Coalition sends out Tea Party alerts. And then there’s TeaParty.org and a multitude of other groups that sprang up two years ago.
No wonder the non-tea party folk are confused about just what a tea party member is. So am I.
