(Chuck Muth) – Nevada state Sen. Bill Raggio’s (RINO-Reno) petty and vindictive rage against conservatives continues. And we need your help.
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is an organization of conservative state legislators which champions “Limited Government, Free Markets and Federalism.” And each state has an appointed chairman representing it.
Nevada has been represented by state Sen. Dennis Nolan for the past few years. But since Sen. Nolan lost his primary last June he had to give up his state chairman’s seat at ALEC. And by tradition, the outgoing chairman nominates his or her replacement, which the national ALEC chairman generally approves without question.
At the August ALEC meeting in San Diego, Sen. Nolan nominated longtime conservative state Sen. Barbara Cegavske – who also happens to be a Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer and is the new Assistant Senate Minority Leader. Her appointment should have routinely been made official at last week’s ALEC meeting in DC.
However….
Sen. Raggio – an ALEC board member – is still furious over being ousted by his Senate colleagues for the leadership position he’s held for the last 27 years as a result of his endorsement of Harry Reid over Sharron Angle. And he falsely believes it was Sen. Cegavske who talked Sen. Mike McGinness into challenging him.
As such, at the ALEC meeting last week, Sen. Raggio coaxed his apprentice, state Sen. Ben Kieckhefer, into challenging Sen. Cegavske for the Nevada ALEC chairmanship.
How does a moderate freshman with absolutely no legislative experience whatsoever trump a conservative, longtime 14-year ALEC member just because Sen. Raggio is having a hissy fit over losing his leadership position?
He doesn’t. Or at least, he shouldn’t.
The ALEC meeting in DC ended without the new ALEC chairman, State Rep. Noble Ellington of Louisiana, making an appointment to fill Nevada’s vacant position. That’s extremely unfortunate.
Sen. Cegavske doesn’t deserve to be treated this way just because Sen. Raggio is trying to settle a political score. So please join us in respectfully urging Rep. Ellington to appoint Sen. Cegavske to replace Sen. Nolan at ALEC by signing our online petition.
Sen. Cegavske has always been there for us. It’s now time for us to be there for her. She’s earned the right to represent Nevada at ALEC. Please let Rep. Noble know she has our support.
Time is of the essence. Rep. Noble could make the appointment any day now. So please, click here to SIGN TODAY!
