(Janine Hansen) – In a surprise move by Senate Republicans, SB207 was declared an emergency measure this morning and was immediately passed out of the Senate 15 to 4. SB207 is the Roll-Over school bond from SB119 with the prevailing wage portion removed.
The elimination of prevailing wage on school building projects would have saved the taxpayers millions of dollars and from a taxpayer’s point of view it was the only redeeming portion of the bill.
By declaring it an emergency measure, the Republican leadership bypassed Senator Goicoechea’s Senate Government Affairs Committee.
Goicoechea, as Chairman of the Committee, could have stopped the measure in Committee and had previously expressed in Committee that without the redeeming section on prevailing wage it would not pass. I guess he didn’t anticipate the treachery of his Republican colleagues.
Goicoechea along with Senators Gustavson, Lipparelli, and Settelmeyer, were the only Republicans to vote against SB207.
All the Democrats voted for it with the RINO’s including leader of the pack Roberson, Brower, Farley, Hammond, Hardy, Harris and Kieckhefer.
