Sisolak backs off threat to Douglas County after Morning in Nevada PAC’s robust ad campaign

Morning in Nevada PAC today announced the success of its digital advertising campaign demanding that Gov. Steve Sisolak call off his threat to wage a vindictive and politically motivated attack on Douglas County. The Governor had threatened to withhold $8.9 million of Federal CARES Act relief funds from the county after it sanctioned President Trump’s campaign rally held on September 12, but backed off the threat yesterday.

Morning in Nevada PAC’s campaign reached more than 70,000 Nevadans, encouraging citizens to contact the Governor directly and make it clear they would not accept this unjustifiable threat on their fellow citizens.

“Governor Sisolak finally found a limit to his retribution politics,” said Morning in Nevada PAC President Adam Laxalt. “There was absolutely no justification for his vindictive threat against Douglas County for allowing a President Trump campaign rally. Fortunately, the people of Nevada stood up and made it clear that this kind of political punishment will not stand.”

Laxalt also noted that the Governor’s threat to withhold the funds — which are supposed to go toward public safety, small businesses, workforce development, non-profit organizations, public health and more — would have caused severe pain for already-hurting Nevada families and businesses.

“Governor Sisolak’s confused, erratic and inconsistent approach to shutting down our economy in the face of the coronavirus outbreak continues to cause so many of our fellow Nevadans to suffer,” Laxalt said. “For him to play politics with much-needed financial support for our citizens is reprehensible. And since these are federal funds we’re talking about, the Governor lacked the authority to do what he was threatening. Yet that didn’t stop him from seriously considering going down that road. It’s frightening and shameful.

“To the thousands of Nevadans who answered our call to action and stood up to resist his threat, I say, ‘Thank you for defending our great state.’”

Morning in Nevada PAC was created in 2015 by friends and supporters of then- Attorney General Adam Laxalt, with the mission to identify, educate, motivate and activate citizens in Nevada to advance conservative causes and elect conservative candidates.

Morning in Nevada PAC also hosts the annual Basque Fry, attended by thousands of patriotic citizens each year — though this year’s was shut down by Sisolak’s heavy-handed orders against public gatherings, even those that are a free expression of speech.
