So after another long day attending an AI training program yesterday, my daughter and I were walking out the door for a happy hour adult beverage and a little dinner at the Italian American Club.
Then Jenna got the text from her brother…
Someone had rear-ended my son CJ on the freeway at the Spaghetti Bowl in Las Vegas. So off we went to get him. Happy hour no longer happy.
He wasn’t seriously injured. Airbag didn’t deploy. The other driver was ticketed.
And while the other vehicle had to be towed away, I was able to nurse CJ’s car back home – though something’s rubbing somewhere, so it can’t be driven until repaired.
So we’re out of a car until the insurance company comes to look at it – and then get it fixed. Royal pain in the tuckus.
Now here’s the kicker…
The other driver didn’t have a driver’s license.
He had a “Driver Authorization Card.”
And what, pray tell, is a Driver Authorization Card (DAC)?
I asked Perplexity (even though I already knew the answer)…
“A Driver Authorization Card (DAC) in Nevada is a type of state-issued document that allows individuals to legally drive within Nevada even if they cannot meet the federal identification or lawful presence requirements needed for a standard driver’s license. It was primarily created to enable undocumented immigrants to obtain a legal means to drive…”
“Undocumented immigrants” = “illegal aliens.”
The DAC was created under Senate Bill 303, sponsored by then-Sen. Mo Dennis (D-Clark) during the 2013 Nevada Legislative Session. It was signed – NOT VETOED – by then-RINO Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Democrats and Sandoval told us it was a legal avenue for long-term illegal aliens who were already driving to do so responsibly.
You mean, like the guy who rear-ended my son? Responsibly like that?
When the law took effect, the DMV recorded thousands of applications in the first weeks. Importantly, under NRS 481.063, the Nevada DMV is prohibited from sharing DAC applicant information with federal immigration authorities.
Which is insane.
Look, I’m on record as supporting some kind of program – originally proposed by Newt Gingrich over a dozen years ago – that would allow certain longtime illegals to remain in the U.S. under very stringent conditions.
But Congress – thanks to Democrats who insist on giving them outright citizenship – hasn’t passed any such law. Which means the current law against illegal immigration is the . . . law of the land.
So either change the law or enforce it.
This guy who read-ended my son could have seriously injured or even killed CJ. He doesn’t belong in this country. And he never should have been behind the wheel of a car on Nevada’s roads.
Enough is enough.
