Amy Groves Files for Nevada Assembly District 19

A Race Worth Watching

Assembly District 19 is one of the reddest districts in Nevada. Republicans win there by wide margins. So why is it represented by someone the voters never chose?

That question is exactly why Amy Groves officially filed this week to run for the Republican nomination.

She’s a Southern Nevada real estate agent with more than twenty years in the local market.

This is not her first run at the seat. But this time is different.

She’s challenging an appointed incumbent who’s already shown he’s more comfortable with the Carson City establishment than with the voters of District 19.

Her Platform

Groves is running on a straightforward limited-government agenda.

Housing is her top issue. She wants to tear down the regulatory walls that make it harder and more expensive to build homes in Nevada.

She also supports universal school choice, a flat-rate vehicle registration fee, photo ID to vote, and keeping men out of women’s sports.

And she’s signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge: no new taxes, period.

Who She’s Running Against

When former Assemblyman Toby Yurek resigned last fall, the Democrat-controlled Clark County Commission appointed Jason Patchett, a former government lawyer, to fill the vacancy.

Then, during the special session that followed, Patchett voted yes on AB5 – the “Hollywood Handout.”

That bill would have funneled $120 million a year in tax credits to major Hollywood film studios for 15 years. Conservatives vehemently opposed the bill.

It failed in the Senate, but  Patchett’s yes vote put him on the wrong side of this controversial issue.

The voters of District 19 – a Republican stronghold –  did not send an appointee to Carson City to hand their tax dollars to Hollywood.

A Notable Endorsement

Former Assemblywoman Annie Black represented District 19 during the 2021 “COVID” session and was THE most reliably conservative vote in the Nevada Legislature.

She’s endorsed Groves:

“Like me, Amy Groves is a fellow realtor and small business owner.  She’s also a principled, limited-government conservative who will not bend to the will of the Carson City establishment or cave under pressure from lobbyists. As Donald Trump would say, ‘she has my complete and total endorsement’ for Nevada Assembly District 19.”

Get Involved

District 19 voters never got to pick their current representative. The Clark County Commission did that for them.

The 2026 primary is their chance to take that back.

Nevada primaries are decided by a small slice of motivated voters, which means every person who shows up, donates, or spreads the word has real influence over who ends up in Carson City.

The filing period closes March 13.

Once the field is locked, District 19 Republicans will face a straightforward choice between a small business owner who has never been part of the machine, or a government lawyer who was handed the seat by the political establishment.

Groves summed it up in one sentence:

“District 19 deserves a representative who knows what life looks like outside the walls of the Legislature and who won’t forget who sent her there.”
