Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt announced the appointment of J. Brin Gibson as the First Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Nevada Attorney General, effective immediately. Gibson will continue to oversee important gaming matters, given his expertise in this legal specialty critical to Nevada’s economy.
In January of 2015, Gibson joined the office as the Chief of the Gaming Division. He later took on additional responsibilities, becoming the Bureau Chief of Gaming, Natural Resources & Government Affairs, and Boards and Open Government, while continuing to serve as chief counsel to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the Nevada Gaming Commission, the Nevada Gaming Policy Committee, and the Nevada Athletic Commission.
Prior to joining the office, Gibson practiced law with what was then Nevada’s largest law firm. He finished his tenure as a partner in the Gaming and Regulatory Practice Division of the firm. Outside of his formal legal practice, Gibson served as Course Coordinator for the Gaming Law Program at the William S. Boyd School of Law under the direction of renowned gaming law expert Robert D. Faiss. Gibson also taught water law at the William S. Boyd School of Law and was appointed twice to the Colorado River Commission.
“Brin has had a distinguished career in both the private and public practice of law,” said AG Laxalt. “With his exceptional experience and respect for the rule of law, we expect Brin to make valuable contributions to the Office of the Nevada Attorney General and to the people of Nevada.”

Gibson earned his Juris Doctorate and Master of Public Policy degrees from Brigham Young University, where he served on the Law Review of the J. Reuben Clark Law School. Gibson studied at the University of Chicago and Brigham Young University, graduating from the latter institution with the highest distinction awarded to baccalaureate graduates.
In his role as First Assistant Attorney General, Gibson will serve as the top legal advisor to AG Laxalt, and will be based in the Las Vegas office.
