Breaking the Cycle: Real Solutions for Homelessness in Las Vegas

Las Vegas doesn’t need more talk, we need solutions.  That’s exactly what I saw at Vegas Stronger when I visited with my good friend, Dave Marlon, CEO and Co-Founder.

What I saw wasn’t just another program, it was a real, working solution to one of the most visible and painful issues in our community.

Las Vegas is facing a crisis that many would rather ignore. Thousands of individuals are living in the tunnels, on our streets, or cycling through shelters with no real path forward.

For too long, the system has enabled a revolving door, temporary relief without long-term results.

But what if we stopped managing the problem and started solving it?

At Vegas Stronger, the focus is different. Instead of leaving people trapped in addiction and dependency, they emphasize structured, evidence-based treatment, something that is now always consistently available across the system.

While many organizations are working hard to serve those in need, we need to ensure that more programs have access to proven, evidence-based treatment that leads to long-term recovery.

Vegas Stronger is working to change that.

They use proven, evidence-based methods like trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), medication-assisted treatment, and long-term recovery planning. These aren’t quick fixes, they’re structured approaches designed to address the root causes of addiction and homelessness and give people a real path forward.

And here’s what sets them apart: the focus is on long-term recovery, not short-term timelines. Too often, treatment is limited by funding or insurance restrictions, even though recovery doesn’t happen overnight. At Vegas Stronger, the goal is to support individuals for as long as it takes to build stability, accountability, and lasting change.

Walking through the facility, I met men who are working to rebuild their lives. You could see it in their eyes, hope, determination, and a desire for something better. That stayed with me.

It reminded me of where I came from, growing up in South Central Los Angeles, California, surrounded by hardship, where too many young men never get a second chance.

The truth is, most people in these situations are not bad people. They’ve made bad choices, often shaped by trauma, addiction, and lack of opportunity.

What Vegas Stronger is doing is powerful: they are restoring choice.

They are giving people the tools, structure, and responsibility needed to reclaim their lives. That’s not just compassion, that’s accountability. And it’s exactly what our communities need more of.

If we truly love Las Vegas, we have to be willing to invest in solutions that work. Not slogans. Not temporary fixes. Real change.

This is about our neighborhoods, our safety, and our future.

And this is where leadership matters.

As an Assemblywoman, I will fight to bring accountability and results to how we address homelessness and addiction.

That means prioritizing funding for programs that use proven, evidence-based treatment, not guesswork.

It means removing barriers that limit long-term recovery and ensuring that organizations delivering real outcomes, like Vegas Stronger, have the support they need to expand their impact.

I will advocate for policies that emphasize responsibility, recovery, and results, because compassion without accountability is not a solution.

Las Vegas deserves better. And together, we can build a community that doesn’t just manage the problem, but solves it.
