Right now, joining us on the Vegas today. KC, live line. It is Thursday, so it’s got to be what Nevada news and views Thursday. And of course, you can always find out more about Nevada news and views, great resource for news and commentary, local, statewide or national. And you can always find out more about them at Nevada news and views.com. Nevada news and views, calm and representing Nevada news and views today. Erica Neely, founder of the Hispanic Latin Alliance, also she happens to be a writer with Nevada news and views and a candidate for the ninth Assembly District. Erica, thanks so much for being with us this morning. I appreciate it. Good morning, Alan, thank you for having me. Absolutely. Let’s talk about some of the issues you’ve been writing about, and one that caught my eye, this is bizarre, because, I mean, we have similar rules here in Nevada, but fortunately, Clark County, things are a little bit different. And I’m talking about a 19 year old illegal alien who was enrolled in a Fairfax High School. This is Fairfax, by the way, in Virginia, not la Fairfax High School, and he was he’s been charged with assault. Supposedly, they’re saying he groped, groped teenage girls in school hallways during the school days. Now this wasn’t just one student who made a complaint or two or three. He is charged with nine assault charges. So hardly a misunderstanding. This is bizarre stuff when they allow, why are they allowing people up to what is it? 22 years of age to go to high school?
Erica Neely 1:38
22 Yes, this story went viral. This is an alarming story. You’re right. This is just nine counts that he was charged with girls that came forward. We’re not talking about the repeat offendings or the children that has not come forward. So this story really takes a toll, because under code section of Virginia, section to 2.1 it allows English learning students, meaning illegals, that or anyone that is learning English second language, to enroll into public schools. However, the problem here that we’re talking about is safety, because state, the state of Virginia does allow community colleges, which they allow these programs for English learners to learn English as a second language. So this is a big problem that’s going on in Virginia. Yeah, and we
Alan Stock 2:35
have a similar situation here, where kids are a kids, where people, young adults, are allowed to stay in in high school until there, it’s 22 in Virginia. Here it’s 21 I mean, when I graduated high school, the oldest student was 18. I was the youngest in the class, by the way, I was 17 and a half, but the oldest was 18 and and, you know, I’m thinking to myself, but 21 even in Nevada, that’s unacceptable.
Erica Neely 3:08
It is unacceptable, but Nevada does. I do want to defend Nevada just a little bit, because Nevada does escort or guide kids that are 18 and older to adult education programs instead of staying in the public schools. So this is the difference between Virginia and Nevada. But however, we should be taking closer look at our election laws and how our education system handles our minors definitely.
Alan Stock 3:35
You know, I mean, this is just, it’s terrible, so we do guide them at least to adult education if they’re older, as well as we should, they should not be in 14 and 15 year olds. This is just absolutely gross. Real quickly, the the governor, on the 31st of March, and he wrote about this, also refused to sign a long standing they say, a state proclamation honoring Cesar Chavez, who has now been discredited for the the abuse that he foisted upon various women, including Dolores Huerta, who was one of the leaders of the Nevada farm workers movement. And so the governor has refused. I mean, but it’s not, it’s not unusual. I mean, all throughout the country, they have covered up. They put plastic, black plastic bags around the statues. People refuse to participate. They’re trying to change the name of streets now. So, I mean, this is not like just something specific to Nevada or to what Governor Lombardo did?
Erica Neely 4:44
Yeah, the sexual assaults. It’s a big deal in the Latin community glorifying someone that, you know, sexualized several women in this movement. So I agree with Governor Lombardo. We should take a closer look and. Find people that we’re going to be honoring with good character, moral that really represents our values, our state and our country.
Alan Stock 5:08
Yes, all right, I’ve had issues with Sister Chavez over the years when we tried to have a food service. We had a food service that we ran and a university in Northern California, and they were not very nice to us at all. When we come back in the next segment, I do want to talk about your candidacy, what’s going on, but I but I have to ask you about this, because it’s in the news, and I know you didn’t write about it, but nonetheless, there is representative, Susie Lee, as you know, is running for re election. She’s our congressional representative from the third congressional district, and she put, you saw the post she put out about the president using the F bomb, 1234, times, and then saying, Well, I did it because, you know, clearly, is I bothered by his the way he’s he’s attacked our Constitution and separation of powers and everything like that. I mean to me, I look at this and say, there are a lot of ways to express yourself, but she’s supposed to be a model for young people who would want to aspire to not only politics, but, you know, to do great things in life, and she’s come across like a tramp by using language like this. I mean, it’s, it’s really, it’s disheartening. By the way, I’m in the Third Congressional so she’s my Congresswoman that I’m talking about.
Erica Neely 6:35
No, I agree with you 100% she is a role model for the political climate. She’s supposed to be representing you and I district three. However, this is not the representation we want. It just shows you that she has lost her way. Is out of touch with everyday Americans, and she’s forgetting and she needs to. She is forgetting the character responsibility that she has for the state of Nevada, especially that Nevada elected President Trump to represent the nation, there is sense of responsibility and respect that she should be giving the Constitution and the presidency right.
Alan Stock 7:14
And you know, when Republicans use language like this, I would condemn it also, but she came out and was like, like, she really was. She doubled down, heavy on it. Oh, and then she said, I’m glad I used it and she didn’t apologize or anything like that. We need good, good role models. And I just want to say, I know your background. I think you are. You are a great role model for young people, young women, especially who aspire to for business and for politics, and you’re running for the ninth Assembly District. When we come on back after we check in with traffic and your Fox, my first weather update, I do want to talk about your candidacy, looking to become our next assembly woman. And by the way, by way of disclosure, I am in the ninth Assembly District, and would like to see Erica Neely become my next assembly woman. So we’ll talk about that with Erica Neely next right here on Vegas at eight. Annie, good morning. Great to have you with us on this Thursday morning, Nevada news and views Thursday and joining us on behalf of Nevada news and views and also a candidate for the ninth assembly district is Erica Neely, founder of the Hispanic Latin Alliance, and Erica. Thank you so much for being with us. I really do appreciate it. You know, I have a lot of respect for Governor Joe Lombardo, and he’s running for re election, has done a great job with the really, the lack of support that he’s had from a lot of the legislature, and hopefully we’ll get more people who are sympathetic to his goals in the Nevada assembly and State Senate in this upcoming election. You certainly being one of them. But the governor last week said, I want Erica Neely to represent the ninth Assembly District, to help me get some of these things through, some of these things that I have I want to accomplish happen. So the governor has endorsed you for the ninth assembly district. So congratulations on that endorsement. So what? Okay, I’m you’re going to get in again. I’m in the ninth assembly. You’re going to be my assembly woman. When you get up there, what are the things that you want to concentrate on the most?
Erica Neely 9:25
So the affordable living is that at stand still, security and protection in our state, with our law enforcement, we need to be funding. And as the city grows, we want to make sure that they have the tools and the resources and being able to take care of their home and families, and then educational option for the students here in Nevada, we did have some improvements. We went from 50 to 45 however, it’s not enough. We want to do better. We can do better. We will do better.
Alan Stock 9:57
So you explained about how you would. And what you would look to correct some of these other issues. What about the affordability issue, though? I mean, how are we going to address that and make things more affordable? I mean, right now we’ve got federal issues because of the war in Iran and everything else, but that, once that’s settled, that will be settled, I expect the price of gas to come back down and some of the other issues. But in general, how would you want to address the affordability issue?
Erica Neely 10:26
So cutting a lot of the red tape, for example, one of the things that we want to do is, I know that Governor Lombardo spoke to the White House DC in releasing more federal federal land for Nevada, so we would be able to create more obtainable house living, and we need, we need to be creating more homes instead of apartments. So that’s one of the things that we can do to lower the rents and having people being able to own their home. In addition, he expanded the first time home buyer loans for residents. So that’s another thing that make it easier for families to get into homes, and so that’s one of the things that I want to focus and continue with Governor Lombardo
Alan Stock 11:08
in his mission, I would like to see more options for rent to own, because people can’t afford they don’t have big down payments Right now, but if they can rent homes or town homes and and, and, you know, possibly use even a little bit of that rent money toward a down payment, and plus have the opportunity to save in addition to that. I mean, within a certain period of time, whatever years, they may be able to come up with enough down payment to be able to put the down payment on that that home, or whatever it is, and and then they would be a homeowner. And when people are homeowners, they take much more pride in their in their domicile, that when they rent. That’s for sure, 100%
Erica Neely 11:55
when we see that people are homeowners, they take care of their community, their homes, crimes go down, and that is a big key about the American dream. 100% agree with you something that I would look into.
Alan Stock 12:07
Yeah. I mean that it, to me, would be so much more important to to get to accomplish something like that, and and the other and the issue of safety. I think people are concerned about safety. Pocketbook issues always just about number one, even though safety is up there vying for number one. But people always want to know, when you open your wallet up and you go to the store to feed your kids, are you going to be able to have enough to be able to feed them? And that’s part of the concern people have. Plus, you want to get to the store safely, so that’s why they’re concerned about the safety issue as well. I mean, those are the two biggest issues.
Erica Neely 12:45
So yes, so looking into more packaging where we could recruit a new police officers. We are not one of the highest recruiting for police officers. Other states have found a sweet spot on recruitment for officers, so we want to be competitive and offer incentives so we could retain them here. So that’s another thing that I’m looking really into and would like to see forward. And with the governor being a sheriff, an ex Sheriff, that’s something I think that would be beneficial for him as we get more Republicans elected, right?
Alan Stock 13:19
And of course, your focus as the governors on choice for school is very important. I mean, this would help people in all strata of education. Economic strata. People think it’s just for the wealthy and the rich, but actually it would be more advantageous for people who are can least afford some of these alternate educational aspects, charter schools, private schools and things like that. And so I mean, and you’ve been behind that on a solid basis,
Erica Neely 13:51
yeah, this is not just talk. This is actually there’s results. We went from 50 under Governor Lombardo. We went from 50 to 45 still, there’s a lot of work to be done. However, the results are moving in the right direction, and I love seeing that. I want to be part of that, and I want to keep moving it forward.
Alan Stock 14:08
We want you to be part of it, too, and that’s why, why we want to get Erica Neely elected to the ninth Assembly District. If you are in the ninth Assembly District, you see Erica Neely his name on the ballot, you want to be able to vote for her, because she is the one that we need to have representing us. Eric has been here as part of the Nevada news and views. Thursday. You want to find out more about Nevada news and views, go to Nevada news and views.com and if they want to find out more about your campaign, how can they do it?
Erica Neely 14:34
They could go to Neely for Nevada. Neely, N, E, E, L, Y for nevada.com.
Alan Stock 14:40
Excellent. Is that the number four or spell it out both. You could do either one. Excellent. That’s the way it should be. Erica Neely, joining us this morning. Erica, thanks so much being with us. The very best to you. Have a great weekend, and we’ll talk to you soon.
Erica Neely 14:55
Thank you. Thank you for having me. Have a good day.
Alan Stock 14:57
You too. Take good care.
