Nevada’s Public-Sector Attorneys Urged to Volunteer Pro-Bono Legal Services

Office of the Attorney General logo(Office of the Attorney General) – Today, in celebration of National Pro-Bono Week, Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt and the Nevada Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission, including Chief Justice James Hardesty and Justice Michael Douglas, encourage all public-sector attorneys to provide pro-bono legal services to those in need.

“Equal justice under the law is fundamental to our system of government, and pro-bono attorneys who contribute their time, skills and resources make an important difference in Nevada’s communities,” said Laxalt. “I thank those members of our legal community who have already donated their time, and challenge all public-sector attorneys to participate not only this week, but wherever and whenever possible.”

There are many opportunities for public-sector attorneys to provide legal services to those in desperate need of legal assistance that are both authorized by the Nevada Legislature and encouraged by the Rules of Professional Conduct. Other organizations that can assist in connecting public-sector attorneys with Nevada clients in need of assistance include: Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans, Washoe Legal Services, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Southern Nevada Senior Law Program and Nevada Legal Services. To learn more about these opportunities, please contact each organization or consult the State Bar’s website for more information.

The Attorney General’s Office also encourages attorneys to participate through its own Office of Military Legal Assistance, the nation’s first attorney general-led, public-private partnership giving Nevada’s military communities access to pro-bono civil legal services. For more information about the Office and how to participate, please call 775-684-1160 or email NDanna@ag.nv.gov To view the letter distributed to all public-sector attorneys in Nevada urging their involvement, click here.
