(Andy for Nevada) – Nevada Controller Andy Matthews has reported record-shattering fundraising numbers in his campaign for re-election. Matthews, a Republican, has raised $282,738.27 (as of January 12) and enters the 2026 election year with $254,115.61 cash on hand.
Both numbers exceed the previous fundraising records at this point in an election cycle for a Nevada Controller’s race, which Matthews himself set in 2022.
“I am extremely honored and grateful for the generosity of my fellow Nevadans,” Matthews said.
“The support my campaign is attracting sends a powerful message: Nevadans stand with me in my fight for transparent and accountable government and want to see that fight continue for the next four years.”
Matthews, who served previously as a Nevada Assemblyman representing District 37 and as President of the Nevada Policy Research Institute, was elected Controller in 2022, earning more votes than any other Nevada Republican on the ballot that year.
A longtime advocate for government transparency, Matthews fulfilled a key campaign promise within his first year as Controller by launching Nevada’s new online checkbook (checkbook.nv.gov), which provides taxpayers detailed, real-time data on state spending.
Matthews has also partnered with local governments across the state to help them implement their own online transparency platforms, a commitment he vows to maintain in a second term.
Additionally, his tenure has included spearheading critical upgrades to Nevada’s financial, human-resource, and information-technology systems, while reforming the state’s financial reporting practices.
During the 2025 legislative session, Matthews proposed legislation to create a Nevada Office of Inspector General, designed to independently audit recipients of state funds, ensuring taxpayer money is spent responsibly.
Although the bill was blocked by legislators, Matthews promises to reintroduce it in 2027 if re-elected.
