MUTH’S TRUTHS

HAPPY RONALD REAGAN DAY!

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo has issued an official proclamation declaring today “Ronald Reagan Day.”

Lombardo recognized The Gipper as “a man of humble background, having been employed as an entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, governor of California and president of the United States.”

Lombardo went on to note that in 1984, Reagan “was victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the general election – a record unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections.”

Reagan was also no stranger to Las Vegas and Nevada.

As an actor and entertainer, Reagan first came to Las Vegas in the 1950s to headline nightclub shows, including a stint at the Frontier, which gave him an early feel for the city’s casino/showbiz culture.

Nevada strongly backed Reagan in both 1980 and 1984, and he returned several times as president for rallies and fundraisers, notably at events in Las Vegas for Republican candidates such as Senator Paul Laxalt.

His trips often mixed policy speeches with jokes about “playing Las Vegas,” underscoring his rapport with the city’s blend of politics and show business.

Reagan maintained close ties with Las Vegas entertainers, especially Wayne Newton, who became a frequent performer at Reagan‑era events, including the 1981 inaugural ball and later White House functions.

Their friendship symbolized the broader connection between Reagan and the city’s entertainment community, which helped keep his image popular in Nevada even after his presidency.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Reagan!
