(Anahit Baghshetsyan | Nevada Policy) – We need your help! The Nevada Assembly is considering AB238, a film tax credit bill that will cost taxpayers, hurt local businesses, and won’t create real, long-term jobs. This is a critical moment, and we need your voice to be heard before it’s too late.
❌ Here’s why AB238 is a bad deal for Nevada:
Temporary Jobs, Not Long-Term Careers: The film industry promises work but often offers only short-term gigs. A study in Michigan showed that the average production job lasted only 23 days.
Hollywood Profits, Nevada Pays: The offered tax credits are transferrable, meainging that corporate giants such as the gaming industry can buy tax credits at a discount, draining Nevada’s revenue and shifting the burden onto small businesses, tourists, and local taxpayers.
No Economic Diversification: AB238 won’t diversify our economy—it will create more transient opportunities rather than stable, long-lasting jobs.
Tourism & Small Businesses at Risk: The film industry does not generate long-term tourism and can even deter visitors from local attractions meaning fewer dollars for Nevada’s existing businesses.
