On April 9, the Nevada Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services met to discuss AB101, a bill introduced by Assemblyman David Orentlicher.
If you haven’t heard of him, buckle up.
This bill takes aim at pro-life pregnancy centers—the very places where women in crisis go for support, ultrasounds, and real options that don’t end in abortion.
What Does AB101 Do?
Here’s what the bill tries to pull:
- It would prohibit “deceptive” statements by health care facilities. That sounds okay at first… until you realize the bill doesn’t define what “deceptive” really means. That gives the state too much power to go after pro-life clinics just for offering life-affirming guidance.
- It allows the Attorney General to file lawsuits against clinics accused of “misleading” women—even if those clinics are just offering free diapers, counseling, or letting women hear their baby’s heartbeat.
- It also targets doctors who offer abortion reversal pills, which some women seek after changing their minds mid-procedure. AB101 would make that harder, too.
It’s no surprise who’s behind it. David Orentlicher isn’t shy about his agenda.
Who Is David Orentlicher?
Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Bethesda, Maryland, Orentlicher grew up in the heart of the government bubble. Now, he’s bringing that out-of-touch mindset to Nevada.
He’s a former ACLU attorney, served in Indiana’s legislature, and now represents Assembly District 20 here in Nevada.
Pro-Life Advocates Push Back
Pro-life groups across Nevada are raising red flags.
“This is government overreach aimed at shutting down people who help women and babies,” one advocate said during public comment. “Why are we criminalizing compassion?”
Nevadans who’ve volunteered at these centers say they’ve seen lives changed—mothers finding strength, fathers stepping up, and babies being born who might not have had the chance.
They fear AB101 will be used to scare and silence those efforts.
What Do Supporters Say?
Supporters of the bill, including several pro-choice groups, claim it’s meant to “protect women from misinformation.”
But that’s not how many see it.
To conservatives, this bill doesn’t protect—it punishes. It puts politics ahead of women’s real needs.
AB101 is now moving through the legislative process. Public comments continue, and votes are expected in the coming weeks.
And if you care about life, family, and real Nevada values, now’s the time to speak up.
They’re not just coming — they’re already here.
