New Poll Assumes Trump Has A Relationship With Putin

New Poll Assumes Trump Has A Relationship With Putin

U.S. President Donald Trump

(Phillip Stucky, The Daily Caller News Foundation) – A new poll published Friday by McClatchy-Marist assumed that President Donald Trump has a strong relationship with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The poll begged the question and didn’t give respondents an option to disagree with the assumed premise, namely, that Trump has a relationship with Putin. Unsurprisingly, the poll found that 100 percent of voters polled believed Trump has a strong relationship with Putin.

Survey respondents were asked, “Do you think Donald Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin is … ?” and the three available responses were, “Mostly a good thing for the United States,” “Mostly a bad thing for the United States,” and finally, “Unsure.”

It should be noted that an “unsure” response doesn’t dispute the fact that there is a relationship at all, but rather, what the effect of the relationship would be on the United States.

Thirty-nine percent of respondents who are voters believe that the relationship is good, and 47 percent believe the relationship is bad. Fourteen percent of respondents indicated that they were unsure whether such a relationship would be good or bad.

“I can tell you, speaking for myself, I own nothing in Russia. I have no loans in Russia. I don’t have any deals in Russia. President Putin called me up very nicely to congratulate me on the win of the election,” Trump said last week, according to The Hill.

“He then, called me up extremely nicely to congratulate me on the inauguration, which was terrific. But so did many other leaders, almost all other leaders from almost all of the country. So that’s the extent.”

Trump continues to dismiss that any such prior relationship existed and asked the Federal Bureau of Investigations to address the accusations, and officials with the bureau refused.

The poll included 865 registered voters nationwide and ran from Feb. 15 through Feb. 19. The poll included a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points in either direction.
