Red Sox and Astros Explain the Electoral College

Red Sox and Astros Explain the Electoral College
N&V Staff
October 19, 2021

(Chuck Muth) – I’m in the middle of a major project for the AhernPAC, so I’ll make this short and sweet…

Dufusses on the left (and some on the right) want to eliminate the Electoral College system of electing the U.S. President that our infinitely wise Founding Fathers established.

The argument is that the winner should be the candidate who receives the most votes cumulatively nationwide, rather than who wins the most electoral votes by state.

The Electoral College system can be confusing and it’s easy to say the candidate with the most votes…wins.

But now let’s look at the current state of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros.

To win the best-of-seven series, the winning team must win four games. Doesn’t matter by how much they win each game by.  Each game is separate – like each state is separate – and you need to win four games…period.

As it stands right now, Boston has won two games and the Astros have won one.  Boston needs to win two of the remaining four games and the Astros need to win three of the remaining games to win the series.

With me?

Now, over the first three games the Red Sox have cumulatively outscored the Astros by a total of 25 runs to 13 runs.

So let’s say the Red Sox win tonight’s game by a score of 1-0, but the Astros win the following three games by identical scores of 1-0 over the Sox.

That means the Astros win the series, four games to three.

But, but, but…

If you add up all the scores of all seven games, the Red Sox would have outscored the Astros by a cumulative total of 26-16.

Which would mean the Red Sox, who only won three of the seven games, would nevertheless win the ALCS and go to the World Series if you go by the total runs scored system – which would be the same as the “popular vote” system for electing our president.

Which would only make sense if you repeal the 10th Amendment, eliminate state sovereignty, and completely federalize our entire system of government.

Which would mean the entire country would be run like California.

Thanks, but no thanks!

P.S. Let’s go, Brandon!
