Response to Brittany Sheehan’s Column on Danny Tarkanian

(Lois Choate) – I appreciate Nevada News and Views giving me the opportunity to respond to the recent political hit piece written by Brittany Sheehan on behalf of Attorney General candidate Adriana Guzman Fralick.

First, about me, I am, have been, and always will be a staunch supporter of both President Trump and Danny Tarkanian.  I have worked diligently and loyally for both of them, tirelessly working as a grassroots operative to help them succeed.  Anyone in the Trump grassroots movement in Nevada can and will acknowledge this simple fact.

With that, let’s start with an important distinction: this was not a news story. It was an opinion column written by someone who openly acknowledges that she is not a journalist. That’s fine — but voters should understand they were reading campaign-style opinion attack piece, not objective reporting.

As is customary in politics, the writer takes words out of context and twists them around to portray the opposing candidate in a false light. To this end, Sheehan succeeded.

Sheehan misled her readers by twisting a tweet Danny liked – about an article where the author (not Danny) said he was glad Trump won despite not personally liking him – and a blog Danny wrote acknowledging Trump has some personal flaws but praising his policies and calling for his re-election. For this, Sheehan falsely claims Danny is somehow not a “true Republican” or not a supporter of President Donald Trump.

Having worked on his campaigns, I can say unequivocally, with first-hand experience — that claim is absurd.

In 2004, while Fralick was a registered Democrat voting for Al Gore, Danny was the Republican nominee for State Senate, taking on a powerful Democrat incumbent in a safe Democrat district.

In 2010, Danny stepped up to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid — the most powerful Democrat in Nevada. That wasn’t a safe race. It wasn’t easy. But he ran it anyway. At the same time, Fralick was preparing to run in a non-partisan Board of Education race. She ultimately finished last in the primary.

At the end of the 2016 elections, when every major Republican candidate running for office distanced themselves from candidate Trump, Danny did not. I remember the pressure they put on him. He never wavered. He stayed loyal to Trump.

Fralick, on the other hand, served as Nevada Chair for Jeb Bush — President Trump’s opponent in 2016. I have yet to see evidence that she supported President Trump after her candidate lost the primary.

In 2018, President Trump endorsed Danny’s campaign for Congress, had Danny greet him at the airport when the President landed on Air Force One, and invited him to speak at his Las Vegas rally. That invitation wasn’t accidental — it reflected trust and alignment.

Somebody who has been supporting me for a long time, and he has shown such incredible stamina. We’ve got to get him to win this race — Danny Tarkanian. Danny, thanks. What a great guy. Thank you, Danny. Thank you for everything. You’ve done a great job. They’re going to get you in. Vote for Tarkanian!” — President Donald Trump

I’ve been criticized and attacked for supporting President Trump… and I haven’t regretted it one single minute.” — Danny Tarkanian

See what Nevada GOP Chair Michael McDonald, one of President Trump's closest allies in Nevada, had to say about Danny at that same rally below:

He (Danny) was the one who stood with us when we got hit. He never left. He withstood the fire, he backed the President of the United Staes, and I can tell you… he backed a winner.” — Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald

During COVID, Danny served as an elected member of the Douglas County Commission and consistently fought to protect individual liberty and push back against heavy-handed mandates. At the same time, Fralick chaired an organization which executed Governor Steve Sisolak’s forced COVID vaccine policies, including for children.

While residents of Douglas County rave about Danny fighting to protect the safety of his constituents and to provide equal protection for everyone, Fralick served on appointed boards advancing progressive policies, including providing work permits to convicted felons in the marijuana industry and promoting DEI initiatives on college campuses (see below).

It is especially disappointing to see attempts to drag Danny’s spouse into this race. Amy is not the candidate. She is an independent thinker responsible for her own views and decisions, just as any American is.

Unlike Fralick, after her preferred primary candidate did not win in 2016, Amy loudly and proudly supported Trump for president. In fact, she was a national delegate for President Trump and proudly cast her vote accordingly.

Attempting to use a spouse’s political history as an attack line is cheap, irrelevant, and revealing. Danny’s qualifications, record, and convictions stand on their own — and always have.

This race should be about consistency, courage, and who voters can trust to stand firm under pressure.

I’ve seen Danny Tarkanian take on powerful Democrats, withstand media attacks such as this one, and remain steady in his principles for over two decades. He doesn’t shift positions based on political convenience.

Nevada Republicans deserve an Attorney General whose record is clear, consistent, and tested — not one rewritten in an attempt to fool voters.
