Broad Daylight. Cutting Tool in Hand: What Does My DSA Opponent Think Should Happen to Him?
Campaign signs get vandalized. It happens every election, to every candidate, in every district.
But I'm not writing this just because my sign got cut up.
I'm writing this because of when and how it took place.
Broad daylight. Busy road. Cutting tool in his hand.
No hesitation. No looking around first.
And thanks to a citizen who witnessed it firsthand, I have it all on video.
What the Photos/Videos Show
An elderly man walks up to my road sign in the middle of the day.
He pulls out a cutting tool.
He slices straight through the canvas – on both sides.
Then he drags the piece away behind him, like it's nothing.
No cover of darkness. No empty street.
Just a guy who apparently didn't think anyone was watching.
Someone was.
Not the First Time, Just the First Time on Camera
This sign has been hit before. Three times this week.
I personally went out to repair it the first time when it was just torn off.
The second time, the sign was so damaged – with the fasteners ripped out – that I had to have it professionally repaired.
None of that is unusual for a campaign season, unfortunately.
What's unusual is having it caught on video, in daylight, clear enough to file a police report.
That's exactly what I'm doing.
I'm not going to pretend this doesn't bother me. But I'm also not going to cry about a piece of vinyl.
Still, it raises a question I can’t stop thinking about.
Now, I want to be careful here. I have no evidence my opponent, Vinny Spotleson, or his campaign had anything to do with this. And I'm not accusing him of it.
But Spotleson is a self-identified dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America. And the DSA's platform calls for defunding the police and abolishing prisons.
So here's a question worth asking:
If this guy is caught, what does Vinny think should happen to him under the system his organization wants?
I think AD41 voters deserve an answer before November.
Bottom Line: I'm Not Going Anywhere
Cut down my sign. I'll put up another one.
Cut that one down too. I'll put up another.
You've got a knife. I've got more signs coming.
You can slice a sign. You can't slice my campaign.
The camera didn't stop you. You won't stop me either.
This November, AD41 voters will decide who represents them.
Not vandals. Not the DSA. And not whoever's out there cutting up signs in broad daylight like it's a hobby.
He has a knife. You get a ballot. Go use it.
