The Mom Who Scared Yeager Out of the Race Is Back – Neely Announces Campaign For Nevada Assembly 9

Erica Neely returned to the campaign trail this week, and if anyone thought she was coming back quietly, they haven’t met Erica.

She made her official announcement at a packed meeting of Battle Born Republican Women, the same group that backed her early in her first run for Assembly District 9.

And she didn’t waste a second reminding people why she’s one of the toughest underdogs in Nevada politics.

Last year, Erica did what the political experts said was impossible.

She challenged Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager, one of the most powerful Democrats in the state.

And she was this close to beating him.

Erica opened her announcement by bringing us back to when our Vegas Golden Knights first came to town.

“All the experts and their critics said, ‘You guys have no business competing in this league. You have no experience.’ People told them they would never be close to the Stanley Cup. But they made it. They made it to the finals. And yes, they didn’t win that first year. But you know what I love about that story? They didn’t quit.”

Erica and our Golden Knights have a lot in common. Both were doubted. Both shocked the experts. Both proved they belonged.

And just like the Knights came back to win it all a few years later, Erica says this is her year to finish the job.

Yeager didn’t retire. He wasn’t termed out. He quit.

After watching the numbers from last cycle, he likely saw what everyone else saw: Erica Neely exposed his weakness.

She showed the district he was beatable. And she scared him enough that he chose not to run again.

Now the seat is open – and Erica’s not coming back as the unknown newcomer.

She’s coming back as the mom who nearly toppled one of the most powerful Democrats in the Assembly.

Why She’s Running Again

Erica kept her message personal, raw, and straight from the heart.

She mentioned her book, “Fighting for Sophia” – the true story of her fight against a judge and system that called her daughter “property of the state.”

That fight changed her.

It turned her into the kind of candidate who doesn’t back down just because the odds aren’t pretty.

“I’m here to tell you that I will be fighting for school choice. I will be fighting for our communities. We deserve someone with a voice that’s going to defend Assembly District 9,” she told the crowd.

Here are Erica’s “non-negotiables” for District 9:

• Safer neighborhoods.
“You should feel safe walking to your car, your mailbox, and your front door.”

• Schools that listen to parents.
“Too many kids can’t read or write – and the people in charge pretend it’s fine.”

• A government that works for families, not against them.
“Your tax dollars won’t be treated like an ATM machine.”

• Real representation.
“I don’t quit. I don’t fold. I don’t back down.”

Erica was fired up and hopeful, saying that District 9 is ready for a leader who shows up, listens, and actually works.

And the crowd seemed to agree.

Erica was quick to remind people that beating Yeager wasn’t a solo effort.

“With the Battle Born Republican women behind me, together we were able to prove that he was beatable – and now he is not running.”

She also pointed to Jill Douglass – now chairwoman of the Clark County Republican Party – as proof that first-time losses can turn into powerful comebacks.

“This is our moment. This is our fight. This is our rematch,” she said. “And this time we’re gonna win it all.”

District 9 is one of the most competitive seats in the state. Republicans know it. Democrats know it.

And anyone who watched last year’s results knows Erica Neely wasn’t a fluke.

The establishment wasn’t ready for her the first time. They’re sure not ready for her now.
