Sometimes, a story comes along that reminds you exactly who we are as a country. This is one of those moments.
Early this morning, President Donald Trump announced something incredible.
A U.S. Air Force Colonel, shot down behind enemy lines in Iran, is now safe. Alive. Back in American hands.
🚨“WE GOT HIM! My fellow Americans, over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History, for one of our incredible Crew Office Members, who also happens to be a highly respected Colonel, and who I… pic.twitter.com/FNPWV6MPvA

And it didn’t happen by luck.
It happened because the United States military did what it does best. It planned. It executed. And it brought one of our own home.
According to the president, this weapons systems officer survived more than 24 hours in rugged mountain terrain after his F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down over southwestern Iran.
He was injured. He was being hunted. And he was alone. But not forgotten.
U.S. forces tracked his location around the clock. Then, under Trump’s direction, they launched a massive rescue mission.
Dozens of aircraft. Advanced weapons. Special forces on the ground. All working together in one coordinated effort.
The result?
Mission accomplished. No Americans killed. No Americans wounded.
That matters. Because history hasn’t always looked like this.
Back in 1980, President Jimmy Carter authorized a rescue mission in Iran known as Operation Eagle Claw. It ended in disaster.
Mechanical failures. A desert crash. Eight American servicemen dead. The hostages left behind.
That failure didn’t just cost lives. It shook confidence in American leadership and military readiness.
Fast forward to today.
Two U.S. airmen shot down in hostile territory. Two rescue missions in 48 hours. Both successful. Both bringing our people home.
That’s not an accident. That’s leadership. That’s preparation. And that’s a military that’s been rebuilt to win.
President Trump called it one of the most daring search and rescue operations in U.S. history. It’s hard to argue with that.
This was deep inside enemy territory, with Iranian forces actively searching for the same man.
And here’s something else that stands out. Reports say local Iranian civilians helped block roads to slow down regime forces.
Think about that for a second. Regular people, risking their own safety, stepping in to stop their own government from capturing an American.
That tells you something bigger is happening.
This isn’t just a military story. It’s a reminder that the Iranian regime and the Iranian people are not the same thing.
Critics, of course, are already raising concerns. Some say this kind of operation risks escalation. Others question whether the broader conflict with Iran is worth it.
Those are fair questions. But here’s what’s not up for debate.
When an American service member is down behind enemy lines, you go get them. You don’t hesitate. You don’t second guess. You don’t leave them behind.
That’s the difference between strength and weakness. And it’s a lesson we shouldn’t forget here in Nevada either.
Leadership matters. Whether it’s in Washington or Carson City, the decisions our leaders make have real consequences. Sometimes life-or-death consequences.
This mission worked because the people in charge trusted our military, gave them the tools they needed, and let them do their job.
That’s the kind of leadership we need more of. Not excuses. Not second guessing. Not failure. Results.
Today, one American family gets their loved one back. Because the United States kept its promise. We don’t leave our own behind.
