(Melissa Clement) – We just made history—and it started 40 years ago.
Back in 1985, Nevada’s Legislature did something wildly commonsense: they passed a law requiring just one parent be notified before a minor girl undergoes an abortion. Just one.
And they wisely built in a judicial bypass for the rare cases when a girl might be in danger.
Because here’s the truth—an adult who loves her, protects her, and knows her should be part of a decision that affects her body, her heart, her future.
Especially in a state like Nevada, where child sex trafficking is heartbreakingly rampant. And let’s not forget: abortion is a predator’s favorite tool to cover their crime.
But before that law could protect even one girl, Planned Parenthood and a Reno abortionist sued. And they won—convincing the Ninth Circuit to block the law and slap a permanent injunction on it.
That decision didn’t just strike down a statute. It silenced parents. It isolated young girls. It kept them in the dark and vulnerable, right where predators want them.
Since 1995, there’s been legal grounds to lift that injunction. But we didn’t have the perfect storm—boldness, the right judges, and the resources to fight.
Then came 2022. Roe v. Wade fell. The wall started to crack.
For decades, Nevada Right to Life never gave up. Not once.
We fought in every legislative session. We launched initiatives. We asked attorneys general to step up.
And when that didn’t work, we built a new strategy. We recruited courageous DAs, raised the money, hired the lawyers, and filed the lawsuit ourselves.
And on March 31, 2025—it happened.
Federal District Judge Anne Traum, a Biden nominee, lifted the injunction. Parental notification is now the law in Nevada. It becomes fully operational April 30.
Let’s be clear—Planned Parenthood will appeal. But the law, the truth, and the people are on our side. They’re terrified because their business model depends on secrecy, isolation, and vulnerable girls.
But we’re not going anywhere. We’re fighting forward.
Let’s thank the heroes: DA Steven Rye (Lyon County), former Carson City DA Jason Woodbury, and current DA Garrit Pruyt. These men stood tall and said enough.
They fought for Nevada’s girls—and their parents.
